Our Editorial Mission
TruckLeap is committed to publishing accurate, up-to-date, and actionable information for owner-operators and trucking professionals. Every calculator, article, and glossary definition on this site is created with the goal of helping truckers make better business decisions — not to fill pages or chase clicks.
How We Create Content
- Primary sources first. All data points (fuel prices, tax rates, cost benchmarks) are sourced from authoritative government agencies and industry organizations — U.S. EIA, FMCSA, IFTA Inc., NMFTA, ATBS, and OOIDA.
- Formulas are verified. Every calculator formula is cross-referenced against at least two independent authoritative sources before publication.
- Plain English, not jargon. We write for working truckers, not accountants or lawyers. If a concept requires specialized knowledge, we explain it clearly.
- No made-up benchmarks. If we cite an average or industry figure, we link to the source. If data is unavailable, we say so.
Update Schedule
Trucking data changes — fuel prices weekly, IFTA rates quarterly, cost benchmarks annually. We maintain the following update schedule:
| Data Type | Update Frequency |
|---|---|
| Diesel fuel prices (EIA) | Real-time API (weekly EIA release) |
| IFTA tax rates | Quarterly (January, April, July, October) |
| Industry cost benchmarks | Annually (when ATBS/OOIDA publish reports) |
| FMCSA/HOS regulations | Within 30 days of any regulatory change |
| Blog articles | Reviewed annually; major articles reviewed semi-annually |
| Freight class tables | When NMFTA publishes updates |

Calculator Accuracy Policy
Our calculators are designed for educational and planning purposes. Results are estimates based on the inputs you provide and industry-standard formulas. They are not a substitute for professional accounting, tax, or legal advice.
If you believe a calculator result is incorrect, please contact us with the specific inputs and expected result. We investigate and correct errors typically within 5 business days.
Error Correction Policy
When we discover or are notified of a factual error, we correct it promptly and update the "last updated" date on the page. For significant corrections (formula errors, outdated regulatory information), we add a correction note at the top of the affected page explaining what was changed and why.
